TITLE: Installation Terminates Back to Windows Program Manager
PRODUCT: Ami Pro 2.0
DATE: 04-Oct-1991
PROBLEM:
During the installation of Ami Pro the message "Install is copying its working
files to your hard drive" appears. After this message leaves the screen, the
Windows Program Manager appears and the Ami Pro installation does not
proceed.
SOLUTION:
The Ami Pro release 2.0 installation program copies several working files to
the location of the TEMP directory. If the path to the TEMP directory is 20
or more total characters (including drive identifier and backslashes), the
installation will not complete. For example, a TEMP path of
C:\WINDOWS\UTIL\TEMP is a total of 20 characters and will be too long for the
installation to proceed. Follow these steps to temporarily set a new TEMP
location for purposes of installing Ami Pro. NOTE: These instructions assume
that the first accessible hard drive on the computer is drive C. If the first
accessible hard on the computer is another drive letter or if drive C has less
than 1.26MB of available disk space, specify instead of C, the letter of an
accessible hard drive with at least 1.26MB of available disk space.
1. Exit Windows completely to the DOS prompt.
2. At a DOS prompt type:
C: and press ENTER.
3. At the DOS prompt type:
MD \TEMP and press ENTER. NOTE: If a directory named TEMP already exists
on drive C, skip this Step.
4. At a DOS prompt type:
SET TEMP=C:\TEMP and press ENTER.
5. Load Windows and install Ami Pro.
6. If the TEMP directory was created in Step 3, it can be removed:
a. Exit Windows completely to the DOS prompt.
b. At the DOS prompt type:
C: and press ENTER.
c. At the DOS prompt type:
CD \TEMP and press ENTER.
d. At the DOS prompt type:
DEL *.* and press ENTER.
e. At the DOS prompt type:
CD \ and press ENTER.
f. At the DOS prompt type:
RD C:\TEMP and press ENTER.
g. Reboot the computer. When the computer reboots, any previous SET
command for the TEMP directory will be established.
